Most patients describe acupuncture as painless. Patients may experience a slight prick of the skin when the needle is inserted and subsequent sensations of heaviness, warmth or tingling at the insertion point.

In the Dong Han (“Eastern Scholar”) lineage of medicine, moxibustion is generally performed directly on the skin to strongly supplement energy in the body. Depending on the size of the cones of moxa used, the technique can be uncomfortable for some patients. Additional information will be provided if moxibustion is recommended for your treatment.
